August 14th (con't)

The entrance to the Stowe Botanical Gardens...

Today, we visited the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens which is about 5 minutes from our house on Lake Wylie.  It was founded in 1991, Daniel Stowe a textile executive, donated 400 acres to provide a garden of beauty for future generations.  The gardens opened in 1999.

This is a pretty good-sized room where receptions, including weddings,  can be held.

Ahhh--finally at last!  A rocking chair with a glass of wine!  You can actually purchase a glass of wine to take with you as you stroll through the very beautiful gardens.  I loved sitting here and enjoying my wine.  Made me think of previous of porch times.

Currently there is an art exhibit called ZimSculpt which is described as "From the savannas of Zimbabwe to its tropical mountains comes ZimScupt, a collection of spectacular sculptures by some of the world most-renonwed artists practicing Shona sculpture".  Some of the sculptures on display and also for purchase once the exhibit ends on September 28th.

Sculptures along the pathway

A "clever" walkway that dares you to walk under and not get wet.  We both did!!!
