October 16th

The First United Methodist Church we are attending, has purchased a house next door just for the Youth Groups.  Today, the Methodist Men were having a B-B-Q fundraiser at the house featuring the well-known B-B-Q of Kyle Fletcher.  Everything was already prepared so we just picked up 2 dinners with enough B-B-Q for 2 sandwiches each, and cole slaw, chips, beans and a cookie.  All for $7.00 each.  It was really quite tasty!

1Timothy 4:12 says:
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity."

Pretty nice house to have for the Youth of FUMC!

The B-B-Q as advertised.

Our church is located diagonally across the street from South Point HS.  It reminds us a lot of HUMC being across from Herndon High.

October 15th

Found a great deal on a new (with 2 little dents) refrigerator at Home Depot for our garage.

Quick stop at Pier I to pick up a headboard and rug for the dining room.

All knobs and pulls are on the bathroom (and kitchen cabinets).

Upstairs hall bath.

Other sink in the upstairs bath.

Our new dining room color and beautiful finished floors.

Finally, the front door is painted; unfortunately it's not the right "yellow".  Re-do on it's way!

October 13th

Busy day at the house today.  With all of the sanding, etc that has been going on, we decided to have all of the duct work, etc cleaned before we moved.

This is the owner of the company "supervising".

Simultaneously, our house was been cleaned!

I think there were 5 ladies on this cleaning crew.  They were great!

So, after checking on everything at the house, we decided to spend the afternoon at the NC DMV.  Love the 3 and only 3 chairs they had for handicapped only seating.  Waited in line about 20 minutes and then it took another 15 or 20 to transfer both cars to NC.  Just like VA, they have a personal property tax which is due on 12/31/14, just in time to welcome in the New Year!

October 11th & 12th

Our "first" boat!!!  Today we went to several yard sales just because I needed a diversion
from B-B-Q!!  Lo and behold we found this awesome paddle boat.  Great price plus the sellers offered to deliver it to our house since we really had no way to transport it.  It seats 4!

After a "hard day" of yard sales, we decided to have lunch at the Belmont Soda Fountain.  The ice cream special of the day was an orange/pineapple milkshake--awesome!!!

On Sunday, we met our dear, long time friend Pam Williams at Sammy's in downtown Belmont for lunch.  It's one of the very few restaurants open here on Sunday.  We then brought Pam out to see our home.  She lives in Anderson, SC, about 2 hours south from us which is great for get togethers.

This is our 2nd, 1,000 piece puzzle finally finished.  Sounds crazy, but these have been a great way to pass the time in the evening in our 1 bdrm apt.  Puzzles done and time to move!!!

As a matter of fact, we have a move-in date!!!  We'll be spending our first night in our new home on Monday, October 20th.  Lilly will be staying at Cats Cradle again until October 28th.  The movers arrive on Tuesday, October 21st.  We then leave for a wedding in Maryland on October 23rd.  Talk about busy!!!  We will get settled when we return as the girls and their families arrive for Thanksgiving!!!

October 10th

Today, we met Dana & Robin Salkeld, their daughter Christine and her son Caleb at the String Bean Cafe in downtown Belmont for lunch. Christine and Caleb live in nearby Cornelius, NC.

Dana and Robin (from Maryland) were here to visit Christine and also go to the Nascar Race in Charlotte and wanted to come by and see our lake house.

Caleb checking out the view from the bonus room over the garage.  All of our bedrooms and the bonus room are carpeted and it's done!!!

Family photo before they leave!

October 7th, etc.

One thing that makes us VERY happy is to arrive at the house and see contractors's vehicles.  These belong to the floor crew.

This is how they taped off areas and put a different stain in each "block" for us to choose the one we liked best.  We chose the one in the middle--Natural.  It really highlights the red oak floors.

Meanwhile back at the apt, the pile of stuff to move is growing!

The makings of a fire pit all ready for the son-in-laws to assemble when they arrive over Thanksgiving.

Another "hard" day so time to unwind at the Stowe Botanical Gardens with a nice glass of wine and their wonderful rocking chairs.

Belated October 4th & 5th posts

Next to a well-kept front yard, David's 2nd passion is B-B-Q (as if you hadn't already figured that out).  So, we had dinner at Mac's.  This location is out near us.  However, our builder has told us the that Mac's in downtown Charlotte (the original Mac's) is much better than this one.  So, looks like the "hunt" for the best B-B-Q  continues!

This is one happy man!!!

So, the next day, we drove to Clover, SC (not too far from us) to check out the annual B-B-Q and Bluegrass Festival.  We drove all over Clover and were having a very hard time finding this place.  Come to find out it was actually held in September, not October.  So, this trip turned into an adventure, which most of our's seemed to have been since moving here.  David pulled out his cell phone and checked on Yelp to find a place to eat.  Up comes Patti-O Grill, saying it's the best place for burgers in town.  So, here it is...

The entrance...

and the well decorated interior.  The place was packed and the burgers were awesome!!!

And a stop by the lake house on our way home--beautiful sunset from our back porch.

October 6th

Any of you who know David and his passion for grass and yards, well, this picture is for you.  Keep in mind we haven't even moved in, but "duty calls".

The grass is really coming in nicely in this very red NC dirt!

The stepping stones after the power wash.

And the front porch cleaned!

Shower off of the first floor guest bathroom.

And the mirror we found at an antique shop.

And the sink, finally installed.

Oct. 3rd

We now have electricity!!!  Our front door is still unpainted, but will be after the entire outside of the house is power washed.

Light in the front entrance.

Our Nutall tree has turned fall colors all ready!!!

And the grass is really starting to grow!

And the gutters are on!

Our back porch.  Screens to be installed later.
